Abstract
With the increased interest in designing innovative civic engagement activities for students, the question of “For what?” warrants attention. There are two primary ways in which campuses involve students in community service: (a) co-curricular service, and (b) curricular-based service learning. Typically, the former is the purview of student affairs and the latter, academic affairs. This presentation will examine delineation of knowledge, skills, and dispositions associated with “Civic-Minded Graduate” as defining a common set of learning outcomes that provide a “north star” for both curricular and co-curricular civic engagement activities. Participants in this workshop that is focused on the “Practice” conference theme will examine the applicability of the Civic-Minded Graduate concept to their own programs as well as the adequacy of the quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing civic-minded graduates.
